Invisalign®
Crooked teeth can mar the appearance of your smile. If you want straighter, more beautiful teeth but don't want a mouthful of metal, Invisalign®
might be the ideal solution for you! Dr. Sarmiento's Wellesley office has ample experience with orthodontic solutions for patients of all ages,
including Invisalign®.
What is Invisalign®?
Invisalign® is an orthodontic treatment that uses aligning trays to straighten teeth. These aligning trays are customized to suit your orthodontic
needs. Every few weeks, these trays are changed to respond to shifting teeth. Unlike traditional braces, Invisalign® trays are clear and can even be
removed for special occasions. For this reason, treatment duration varies from patient to patient. The level of control patients enjoy with
Invisalign® makes this treatment option appealing for many people with less-than-perfect teeth.
Is Invisalign® Right for You?
Invisalign® can be used to correct a number of bite problems including the following:
- Gaps between teeth
- Overcrowding
- Crossbite
- Underbite
- Overbite
These bite problems aren't just a cosmetic problem. In addition to detracting from the look of your smile, these issues can escalate to TMJ
pain, gum disease, tooth decay and even bone erosion.
Invisalign® vs. Braces and Veneers
If you've considered traditional braces or even veneers, you might want to consider Invisalign® instead. As previously mentioned, Invisalign®
alignment trays are clear and can even be removed at your discretion. With traditional braces, you're stuck with metal on your teeth for years.
Not only is this unsightly, it can be uncomfortable as well.
At the Wellesley office of Dr. Alberto Sarmiento, we offer veneers for patients who want whiter, straighter teeth. However, veneers might not be
the best choice for every patient. Unlike veneers, Invisalign® doesn't simply cover up the problem — teeth are actually straightened. In addition,
veneers can cost a lot more than Invisalign®.
How Invisalign® Trays are Placed
The first step in placing Invisalign® trays is imaging. Dr. Sarmiento will take 3D images of your jaw area, which will be used to envision what
your mouth will look like after successful Invisalign® treatment. In addition, the imaging is used to develop trays that fit your unique orthodontic
needs. Once imaging and analysis is complete, the trays are made. Most people require between 20 and 29 sets of trays per arch.
